Why should I read this informative page?

It's all about the NEW FoxFire Fluorescent Lumber Marker, developed with the latest and safest fluorescent color marking technology.

What is the product and how does it relate to me?

Used for marking or grading all types of lumber.

  • quality control grading
  • anywhere clear concise colored markings are required.

Uses outside of the forestry industry include:

What are the benefits of this product?

  • Easy, clear visibility to the eye as well as excellent fluorescent scanning separation.

  • Our range has 33 visibly different colors. The number of separable fluorescence scanning colors differs with equipment manufacturer. (Other markers can only achieve up to 5-8 separable colors.)
  • FoxFire Lumber Markers are brighter, bigger and longer lasting, therefore reducing waste and making this marker much more economical to use.
  • Foxfire has a strong, octagonal shape shape, ensuring no breakage and clean edged markings every time it is used.
  • Made with the latest chemical and color technology available today.

How safe are FoxFire Lumber Markers?

It is important that:
  • the marker materials are safe to handle
  • the markings on the products have no negative impact on the environment.
  • there are no problems with disposal of used marker stubs.

Workers involved in lumber marking are in daily contact with markers. Some fluorescent materials have been linked to cancers so, when we set out to design our markers, it was particularly important that we use non-toxic components. Many of our fluorescent color materials were considered so safe that a major North American University cleared them for use in childrens' crayons. Other non-fluorescent components we use are equally safe and can be found in quality household paints and wax-based products used in your home.

Can RDT provide more color selection?

  • RDT already provides the largest selection of colors available for today’s lumber market. In spite of this, we are always looking for ways to improve and add to the FoxFire color selection to assist our customers in each of their individual operating environments.
  • In 2002, RDT introduced a new, bright #602 Azalea Pink. In 2003, RDT introduced #1055 Tropical Orange, #1056 Teak Brown, #1057 Firebrick Red and #1058 Neon Green. Additional colors are currently under review and will be made available upon completion of extensive testing, both here in our lab, as well at selected mill sites.
  • In addition to all the brilliant visible fluorescent colors you expect, our range includes an invisible marker, a brilliant white marker, and a black marker, all of which fluoresce blue - a first for the industry. Please contact us if your needs require invisible markers in other colors which are not presently part of our standard product line.

Can I recycle used FoxFire marker stubs?

Yes! And we'll pay you to do it. As part of our commitment to reduce waste, RDT will provide a credit of C$0.50/lb - US$0.50/lb - of recyclable material to customers who recycle their FoxFire marker stubs through us. This credit will be applied against future purchases of FoxFire markers.

How does RDT show its commitment to Quality?

  • Each and every box of FoxFire Markers has a production batch control number printed on the bottom. If any of our customers should ever experience a problem with any of our products, we ask that you tell us by quoting the production batch number on the bottom of the box, provide us with a description of the problem experienced and we promise to follow-up with our quality control personnel and get back to you with an explanation and/or resolution for the problem experienced.
  • Upon request, RDT will provide documentation required to meet ISO Standards requirements.
  • RDT also includes a product feedback form in the top of its gross size boxes. We ask that you tell us what we can do to improve our product and make it easier for you, our customer to use.
  • Following successful adoption of FoxFire Markers by a significant number of mills, RDT further increased the fluorescent brilliance of many of the colours by as much as 10%, to further minimize error rates. This has been at no additional cost to our customers.

How else has RDT shown its commitment to Customers?

  • A number of mills were experiencing frustration dealing with temperature change in climatic zones that constantly fluctuate between soft and medium usage ranges. To solve the problem of having to stock both soft and medium textures and switch between the two hardnesses as temperatures change during the day, RDT introduced a Medium Soft texture which allows our customers the use of one hardness during those mid-range temperature changes.
  • Please let us know what we can do to help make your application easier!
